A senior principal architect is normally a managing partner or senior executive within an architecture or design firm. He or she normally serves as an executive manager, helping to guide the business by determining the scope and type of design work the firm will do. This person also will typically act as something of a project overseer, supervising project managers and helping to guide them to efficient and original solutions. The senior principal architect is also usually the person who decides on jobs to bid and may work with his or her own costing departments to help firm up the parameters of such bids in order to make them as competitive as possible.
