Senior SAP (systems, applications, and products) consultants sell business software and hardware products from the SAP company. These consultants must establish and maintain relationships with clients, so marketing and customer service skills are important in this position, and they also meet with clients to discuss their needs and problems and determine which products will best address these issues.
Senior SAP consultants must be technologically proficient and able to fully understand the function of each product in order to make recommendations, and they are often responsible for implementing and configuring new technologies and ensuring that they function as necessary. Some may train other employees within the organization, and technical support may be provided when new software or hardware is implemented, so problem-solving and troubleshooting skills are also beneficial.
Senior SAP consultants typically lead a team of consultants, so management skills and experience are necessary for this position, and they may also have financial responsibilities such as accounting, budgeting, cost control, risk analysis, and profitability forecasts. There may also be sales goals to be met, for which commission is offered.
The ability to travel is required for this position to meet with clients. Because this is a senior position, a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a business or computer science field and many years of experience are usually necessary.
