A senior sales assistant is responsible for assisting the senior sales manager and/or assistant manager in making sure that all employees are doing the job correctly. Other duties of the senior sales assistant include assisting clients and/or customers, making daily and weekly sales goals, keeping track of all sales for the month, and reporting any problems to their supervisor. These assistants generally work in an office and/or on a sales floor depending on their employer. Senior sales assistants are hired by many types of businesses, ranging from grocery stores to department stores to other retailers; any business that involves sales may hire a senior sales assistant.
Requirements for senior sales assistants vary depending on the employer. Generally, at least three years of sales experience is needed; a high school diploma or equivalent may be required as well, although some companies prefer an associate's degree. Other requirements for senior sales assistant positions include the ability to multitask, communicate effectively with colleagues and customers, remain organized, and use basic computer software such as the Microsoft Office suite.
Physical requirements and hazards are generally limited in senior sales assistant positions, although some employers require the majority of shifts be spent moving about the sales floor. Many senior sales assistants work during regular business hours, although hours may vary depending on the employer's hours of operation.
