Large corporations need fairly robust legal departments to handle a variety of internal and external processes. A senior staff counsel is an upper-level employee at the top of a company's legal team who is often tasked with providing legal guidance and interpretation to an executive board; they may also be responsible for high-level supervision and management within the legal department itself and reporting from it to executives and board members.
