A senior supplier quality engineer (senior SQE) is a project manager who ensures consistent delivery of high-quality supplies to the business. First and foremost, they develop testing and experimental methodologies to test the quality of supplies and the system of their delivery. After developing a successful testing methodology, the senior supplier quality engineer oversees the collection of the data; upon collection of the relevant data, they lead team members in data analysis and prepare a report setting forth recommendations on how to move forward. This report is often furnished to department managers, senior management, and executives.
After filing the report and receiving authorization from senior managers, the senior supplier quality engineer begins implementing agreed-upon corrective actions. They work with team members and the supplier to implement new goals and policies to raise the quality of supplies and/or create a more efficient delivery network. After implementations are made, the new systems are tested and analyzed again. After the problematic system has been corrected, the senior supplier quality engineer returns to monitoring the supply network as a whole.
Senior supplier quality engineers generally hold at least a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical discipline. Due to the project management nature of the position, most senior supplier quality engineers also have project management certifications.
