Job Description for Solar Sales Consultant
A solar sales consultant provides information to customers about solar power equipment, and they are often the first point of contact. These consultants provide information about costs savings and incentives related to solar power-related equipment and products. Their duties also include finding and setting up meetings with potential solar power equipment customers, maintaining contact with existing customers, generating solar sales leads, and preparing proposals, contracts and quotes. Using computer software to estimate product costs based on variables such as site conditions, prices and electric energy costs is common as well. The work environment for a solar sales consultant may vary greatly depending on the company, which can range from government agencies to small firms to wholesale businesses. Solar sales consultants generally work in office environments, and many travel frequently to meet on-site with clients. Solar sales consultants generally work during regular business hours, although additional and/or alternative hours may occasionally be required. Their co-workers include other solar sales consultants, as well as supervisors and managers. Frequent interaction with clients is necessary as well.
Generally, there are no formal education requirement for being a solar sales consultant. However, a postsecondary degree in business or a related field may be beneficial; experience with building, solar education and/or sales may help in obtaining an entry-level solar sales consultant position as well. Solar sales consultants must have excellent customer service and communication skills. Knowledge of solar power equipment and the ability to estimate costs are also necessary.
