The computer/electronics sourcing team lead is responsible for developing strategies to guide computer and electronics supply chains for their organization, ensuring the most efficient and cost-effective service possible exists. Individuals in this position assist in placing orders, managing relationships with vendors, and handling product sourcing. They are responsible for leading pricing negotiations with suppliers, evaluating supplier bids, resolving customer complaints and delivery issues, maintaining a good relationship with suppliers, and maintaining vendor databases and electronic catalogs. Additionally, sourcing team leads are in charge of leading cross-functional sourcing teams, supervising junior buyers, assigning activities to lower-level employees, and serving as a small business liaison officer. These professionals generally work in an office environment during regular business hours.
A bachelor's degree in business administration, engineering, computer science, or a related field is generally required for this position, and a graduate degree may be preferred. The sourcing team lead is frequently expected to have five or more years experience in a procurement environment including strategic sourcing, commodity management, and supervision of buyers. The person in this position must have excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. They must be an advanced user of common business computing hardware and software and stay up to date on changes in the industry.
