Sports massages may help clients to become more flexible, feel less tired and sore, perform better, and prevent and remedy injuries, as well as provide a sort of relaxation that is highly beneficial for athletic performance. Some sports massage therapists may work with clients' health providers in order to develop suitable therapy plans for their individual needs for recovery. Similarly, massage techniques administered can vary depending on the type of sport a client plays. In most cases, clients travel to the therapist’s office of operation; however, in some cases, the therapist must travel in order to meet with patients in various settings.
Licensing as a sports massage therapist is generally required for this position, along with current CPR and first aid certification, and many have previously attended a massage therapy school. The hours of this job may vary, as therapists may occasionally have to work with the schedules of clients. The work can be physically strenuous, as these therapists often stand for long periods of time, and the force exerted by performing massages may cause strain to the therapist’s body.
