Storage Area Network (SAN) Systems Administrator Reviews

What is it like working as a Storage Area Network (SAN) Systems Administrator?

Storage Area Network (SAN) Systems Administrator in Reading:
"Good not Great."
Pros: Opportunity to be brought on board for new projects without previous experience. Good vacation, holiday, and sick time. Good health benefits. I enjoy the people I work with. Flexibility of approval for time off. No shortage of work (the IT department I work in is notorious for biting off more than we can chew.)
Cons: Pay for specialized IT positions (SAN admin, SCCM Admin, exchange admin, etc.) is very low compared to private sector jobs. Management, at times makes decisions about projects without consulting or even letting the techs who will be affected know. The environment is very reactive and rarely proactive. Important projects and considerations are put on the back burner until it becomes a serious problem that needs immediate attention. I haven't had an evaluation in over 3 years. I have a hard time determining if I am doing well and don't get raises based on performance. This makes it hard to be motivated to grow professionally.
