System certifications and compliance engineers are primarily responsible for ensuring that systems are certified and free of electrical, radioactive, and thermal hazards, and they are often employed within the informational technology or engineering departments of organizations.Read More...
A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering is generally required for this position, although many employers prefer those with master’s degrees and three to five years of engineering experience. These engineers usually work traditional weekly business hours; however, extended hours may occasionally be required depending on the organization.
System certifications and compliance engineers will have a variety of responsibilities, including: creating procedures to ensure that governmental and industry regulations are met; creating guidelines to confirm regulation; coordinating information between departments regarding systems and guidelines; maintaining updates and educating design teams regarding system compliance; training personnel; maintaining records and paperwork; ensuring that all deadlines are met; reviewing compliance with utility companies; ensuring customer abidance to governmental and industry regulations; and preventing licensing and trademark violations.
Those in this position must have strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to explain technical and industry terms to those with little knowledge of the subject. These engineers must be willing to participate in ongoing education within their field.
