Systems Engineer, IT Advice

What do you wish you knew about your job when you first started out?

Systems Engineer, IT in Omaha:
"Be likable."
People will hire you if you are a nice regular person. If you are a super nerd or think end-users are below you. You probably fit the stereotypical IT guy. Be different and fun. Get certs.

Systems Engineer, IT in Orange:
"Stay Hungry."
When it comes to the hiring process of new people. I will almost always side with one who seems the most eager to learn new things. Skill does come into play, but when you are new into the game, hunger is the place to start. Show that you want to learn, and can learn very fast. Show that you are hungry to move forward. Most important. Never stay with the same company more than 3 years.
