Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills are important in this position to find the root causes of mechanical problems, and tests and periodic maintenance on various system components are necessary to ensure that parts such as servers and operating systems are functioning properly. It's also important to be knowledgeable of new developments in the field to implement the best technology possible, and these analysts may provide suggestions to management regarding when new components should be integrated. Systems integration analysts may also be responsible for obtaining vendor quotes and placing purchase orders.
There may be a budget to be met, so it's important to be able to obtain good prices while still using quality items, and inventory of organizational software and system assets must also be taken on occasion. A bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related field is generally required for this position, and some employers may hire candidates with less education if the right skills are possessed.
