Systems integrators (computer/networking) are responsible for integrating computer and networking systems for their organization. They are in charge of the analysis and design of complex systems, increasing business efficiency and capabilities. They utilize computer systems and network hardware to fulfill all company objectives, as well as deploy software packages to increase business efficiency. Other tasks performed by systems integrators include coordinating users and networks with distributed systems resources, ensuring that all systems are compatible with existing business structures, developing integration requirements, and working with equipment vendors and other administrators to ensure all integrated systems meet project and company standards.
Systems integrators also configure and tune systems equipment, and test, implement, and upgrade computer systems. These individuals also assist with security applications and recommend software solutions as needed. They identify possible incompatible components and develop solutions for their replacement. Systems integrators evaluate and integrate new technology based on business needs and budgets, as well as create guidelines and policies before deploying integrating systems.
A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field is required for this position, as well as previous experience in a systems integrator capacity; relevant certifications may also be beneficial. Systems integrators must have expert knowledge on what computer or networks functions are needed and what the company needs to increase their performance. They should be proficient with a variety of operating systems as well. Systems integrators must possess strong organizational skills and pay close attention to detail, as well as know how to multitask and prioritize integration projects.
Systems Integrator (Computer / Networking) Tasks
Install, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot routers, gateways, firewalls, and other networking infrastructure for local area and wide area networks (LAN/WAN), including Internet connectivity.
Train and provide troubleshooting procedures to helpdesk personnel for first-line network issues.
Perform day-to-day administration of the company's network infrastructure.
