Technical Designer, Apparel Reviews

What is it like working as a Technical Designer, Apparel?

Technical Designer, Apparel in Van Nuys:
Pros: I enjoy being able to use the knowledge and skills learned in school. Finally, in the apparel industry and working my way up. My favorite part of the job is the "newness." New artwork, new fabrics, new styles.
Cons: The culture in our small office could be a lot better. We have a great group of people on the team, but it doesn't feel like a team. There is a lot of unnecessary bad talk about other team members.

Technical Designer, Apparel in Minneapolis:
"Whack a mole."
Pros: Working for a small company has been rewarding in that it has provided me with an extensive amount of experience in my field. I have a developed a vast skill set to build an impressive resume with just 4 years experience with one company.
Cons: The job is very demanding and stressful. I fill MANY different roles due to company size. Disorganization takes a toll. I constantly have multiple urgent priorities and am rarely able to give proper attention to any. As a competent and reliable worker I am often asked to take on tasks that should not be expected of me, but due to blurry job descriptions they somehow make their way onto my plate. I feel pulled in a million directions all day every day. I spend most of my time spinning trying to deal with whatever emergency is coming through the door at any give time and not focusing on what I am expected to be accomplishing.
