Job Description for Technical Support Representative

Technical support representatives, also known as tech support reps, are responsible for providing customer service to individuals or companies and helping them troubleshoot technical difficulties. Technical support representatives can vary in location, but many work in call centers. Those who take incoming calls assist customers in resolving problems with their computers, Internet, phones, networks, etc. Other technical support representatives not in call centers may visit the customer directly or communicate via chat or e-mail to troubleshoot specific problems. Technical supports representatives are concerned with two important tasks: excellent customer service and problem solving. They should be polite and helpful in dealing with all clients and must be able to communicate with them effectively to solve each technical issue. Technical support representatives of the call center variety must also be able to type while speaking to the customer in order to document the interaction.

"Supporting e-commerce procurement database."
Pros: There are no metrics to meet like you would face at a call center. This is a huge relief and makes the job very stress free. Collaboration and teamwork is amazing, There are snacks always available for us in the kitchen. Unlimited PTO. You have the time you need while working to stop and think and breathe as long as you need with no one coming and questioning why your statistics are down.
Cons: The commute is a 1:30 - 1:45 drive from home. The position is very specific in that who and what we support is specified industry and there is one product for them all. This means that the issues are the same and tasks are the same so you will not reallt face an issue that really takes advanced troubleshooting.

Pros: Opportunity to excel if you're willing to work super hard and you can learn fast. Fellow employees are really cool, new management strives to do their best it seems. The virtual server environment is a success for the most part as long as client expectations are kept at a realistic level by sales. They are willing to pay for some certs and give you a pay raise upon completion of certs.
Cons: Irritated clients because their expectations were set high and some of the servers are not up to par in the shared environment. Unclear path of promotion, lack of on the job training. Fast paced, sometimes chaotic environment paired with almost no down time.
