Job Description for Variety Saw Operator

A variety saw operator operates a circular saw, carrying out tasks such as sawing and otherwise manipulating wood stock. They need to use various sizes and types of saw disks, so they must be familiar with the various types to determine which disk is needed for the task at hand. The disks are attached to the saw machine using a wrench, and then the machine is started and the wood is sawed. The variety saw operator may also have to manipulate the saw table so that it reaches a specific angle or height. Knobs and handwheels may be manipulated to guide the machine or blade. The variety saw operator may also be expected to be able to read blueprints, and they need to monitor the quality of the sawed wood to make sure that the machine is working well. When it is not, the operator performs troubleshooting and basic repairs. Periodic maintenance should also be carried out on the machine to prevent malfunctions from occurring.


Variety Saw Operator Tasks

  • Conduct quality inspections, SPC, and track materials.
  • Load and unload billet and mults according to safety regulations using a hoist or hand controlled overhead.
  • Cut raw material billet with precision according to a pre-established weight target.
  • Set up and operate numerically controlled saws to cut a variety of billets according to customer specifications.
  • Package finished materials and perform regular cleaning or maintenance tasks.
