Job Description for Vascular Ultrasound Technologist
Vascular ultrasound technologists carry out ultrasounds on patients’ vascular systems and use tools to record diagnostic and anatomical images. These technicians must be familiar with all of the instruments used to carry out ultrasounds and able to identify each aspect of the ultrasound monitor, as well as differentiate between normal and abnormal anatomies.Read More...
Ultrasound technicians must document their findings and pass them on to a senior technologist or corresponding physician; any abnormalities should be reported immediately, as well. Because these technologists work directly with patients, it is important to be caring and professional in order to help them feel at ease. They must have good communication skills in order to explain procedures to customers and communicate effectively with other medical providers, and they may also aid in clerical duties such as creating reports and charges.
It is important for vascular ultrasound technologists to stay up-to-date with all of the latest developments in the field to recommend upgrades to medical devices when better technology is available. Technical schooling is often necessary in order to obtain the licensing needed for this job. The hours may vary, as some technologists must be on-hand for emergency situations. The work is generally carried out in a hospital or private practice.
