Vendor analysts must be observant and rely on judgment skills, as their tasks depend on logistics and supply chain management, and they are typically responsible for the flow of goods within an organization, anticipating the needs and wants of departments, and coordinating with vendors to fulfill these needs in a timely manner. They typically work in an office setting during regular business hours to call and e-mail vendors, and they also serve as a liaison between vendors and departments within the company to resolve problems.
A college degree is generally required for this position to understand logistics, supply chain management, and data trend analysis, and organizational skills are also important in this position. Vendor analysts spend the majority of their time analyzing charts and data plots on computers to find the best solutions for the company, and they may also be responsible for determining whether spending should be increased or decreased as it relates to vendors.
