They communicate regularly with management specialists to share ideas and check progress of objectives, and they must also create detailed reports based on their observations. They work primarily in an office environment, but may also travel to facilities to verify issues, write about incidents, and recommend changes to management teams. They generally report their progress to a management vice president and must always be organized and multitask on a variety of projects. They must also develop strong business relationships with vendors and strive to provide excellent client service.
VPs of facilities management actively participate in business meetings to suggest ideas to save company resources and provide recommendations to solves problems in the workplace, and they are also responsible for providing expert-level technical skills to help management complete tasks. They may also oversee cleaning, repair, and customer service staff to surpass client expectations and increase company revenue. They generally use a personal computer to maintain communication at all times and must be proficient with office software to create spreadsheets and complex word documents. A bachelor's degree in business or a related field is generally required for this position, and prior experience as a facilities manager is highly beneficial. Industry certifications are also helpful.
