A weather forecaster will typically spend his or her days in an office on a computer. He or she often uses many different programs to look up patterns on a radar and hosts short news segments. Meteorologists must be able to have the skills necessary to find and understand information that pertains to an audience of thousands of people.
A bachelor's degree in meteorology or a related field is usually required. Meteorology is not a common field found in most universities, so many obtain training through trade schools or smaller colleges. Some even offer on the job training. Meteorologists tend to do their research alone, but they work with other news broadcasters on a daily basis. The only physical attributes include traveling and being outdoors in dangerous weather to report breaking news. Meteorologists can expect long workdays, and the hours can vary on hours, depending on the weather situation. Since Mother Nature often has a mind of her own, forecasters need to truly have a passion and dedication to this position.
