The eCommerce VP will typically supervise a number of teams that may work on web design and usability to create an optimal experience for prospective customers. The VP will also engage with testing personnel and user-ID designers to ensure that the company's online commercial presence is clear and easy to use. He/she may also interface with marketing or sales departments to help emphasize and push offerings towards consumers.
Most importantly, the eCommerce VP will ensure that all back-end systems and procedures operate correctly; this normally includes online payment authorization and processing methods and systems. The eCommerce VP will also work with, if not directly supervise, a team which handles online security to ensure that the safety of all stored consumer information is maintained.
As a VP, this eCommerce executive will also typically have personnel and managers underneath them to analyze all aspects of this part of the company's operation. These analysts will generate reports that the VP will use to identify opportunities to expand current services, grow online market shares, and increase efficiency of online sales models. The VP will also help generate and approve all budgets of eCommerce-related teams and ensure that these groups stay within their operating expense targets.
To work as a VP of eCommerce, a candidate will generally need a Master's degree in Business Administration, as well as extensive practical experience in the eCommerce business sector as a merchandiser, web presence marketer, or a similar role.
