ASU alumni belong to a wide range of sectors. A few fields in which grads tend to find work include the health care industry, the retail industry, and the marketing, advertising, and media management industry. The most popular career sector among alumni is public K-12 education. Given the high SAT scores reported by ASU grads, their lower-than-average salaries are somewhat surprising. Former ASU graduates bring in $44K on average.

A gender wage gap becomes apparent after college, with female graduates earning only $41K on average compared to $51K for male graduates.

ASU students enjoy their time in Montgomery, and slightly less than one-fifth of students actually choose to live and work there after graduating. Montgomery, Ala. is another hot spot for ASU grads, where salaries rank at the top of the pay scale (compensation averages out to $50K). ASU alumni in Birmingham, Ala. can often be found sliding in at the lower end of the pay scale, where median paychecks are the smallest at approximately $27K. In addition, ASU grads flock to neighboring Mobile, Ala. as well as Memphis, Tenn.

Degree Major

A Bachelor of Science in Finance will compensate ASU grads at a much higher rate than other degrees — these alums rake in about $64K on average per year. Average annual salaries for those with a B.A. in Communication are the lowest of the pack, earning around $38K.

Customer Service is a popular skill among ASU alumni, with nearly one in four workers reporting using it on the job. Former Hornets with Budget Management abilities can expect to make 86 percent more than their former classmates ($82K). Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Project Management are among other dominant skills.

Benefits and Perks

As for time away from work, just over half of the former students are compensated for vacation days, but only one in three grads can take paid time off due to illness. To plan for old age, a fair number of grads maintain savings accounts through a company's 401(k) plan. For this school, a strong majority of graduates are the recipients of health benefits, and the larger part of respondents pick up dental plans, too. Alabama State University grads are also lucky enough to receive life insurance, a casual working environment, tuition reimbursement, and company pension plan.

Related Schools

University of West Alabama grads bring in salaries of around around $46K, making them the most similar to ASU alumni in terms of earnings. Auburn University at Montgomery, Columbus State University, and Troy University are also similar to ASU.
