ECU alumni can most commonly be found in the health care services industry, the banking industry, and clinical care, though they are employed throughout a wide range of sectors. The majority of ECU alumni wind up in the health care industry. Those with an education from ECU earn an average of $51K.


There is a sizable difference between men's post-college salaries and women's: the median for the former is about $59K, but the median for the latter is only approximately $49K.


The ECU alumni who make the most are Manufacturing Engineers; they report a median pay of $63K. Construction Project Managers and Software Engineers draw in a fair amount as well — $61K and around $60K, respectively. On the lower end, Office Managers report making $43K.


Home to a large number of ECU alums, Raleigh, N.C. is by far the most attractive city for these former students. It is also not uncommon to find former ECU students living and working in Durham, N.C. — this top-paying city is a popular destination with a median salary of about $60K. East Carolina University alumni often stay in Greenville following graduation despite having one of the lowest median salary among popular cities (approximately $45K). Other common destinations for ECU grads include close-by Charlotte, N.C. and Washington, DC.

Degree Major

Former Pirates who fare the best in terms of salary hold a Master of Science (MS), Medical Physics and earn a median salary of $148K per year. A Bachelor of Science in Business Administration is less advantageous in terms of earnings; alums with this degree are the lowest earners with a median annual pay of $32K.


Project Management is a popular skill among ECU alumni, with nearly one in seven grads reporting using it on the job. Project Management commands a pay premium of 25 percent for former Pirates. Demonstrated ability in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and Customer Service rank among leading skills as well.

Benefits and Perks

Only about two-fifths of alumni enjoy paid vacation and one in three grads receive sick leave. Dental insurance applies to the larger part of alums, and a fair number of respondents report health coverage. A strong majority of alums participate in a 401(k) program. East Carolina University grads are also lucky enough to receive life insurance, a company-subsidized cell phone, a casual working environment, and tuition reimbursement.
