Graduates of ECU head into a range of vocations when it comes to work; the banking industry, the education industry, and clinical care are just a few professional areas popular among alumni. The most popular field is the health care industry. Following graduation, ECU students earn an average of $51K.

After college, a notable gender gap appears: the average female graduate makes around $49K where the average male graduate hauls home about $59K.

In the ECU alumni professional community, Physical Therapists make the highest median pay ($70K), though Operations Managers (approximately $64K), and Construction Project Managers ($61K) are close competitors. Relative to other positions, compensation dwindles for Elementary School Teachers; alumni in this role face average salaries of $31K.

Raleigh is filled with ECU grads. It is no surprise that Washington, DC, which hands out the biggest paychecks (the average salary is approximately $68K), is another of the most popular spots for former ECU students. ECU grads love their alma mater so much that many stick around in Greenville despite the median salaries there ranking lowest among popular cities (around $46K). Close-by Charlotte and Durham are also desirable cities among ECU alumni.

Degree Major

ECU students with a medical degree can expect to make the most money ($139K per year) compared to their fellow graduates. A Bachelor of Science in Education commands less pay, and these degree-holders face salaries of about $36K.

Former Pirates with Financial Analysis experience garner salaries that are 29 percent more than other grads' salaries. ECU grads are usually competent in Project Management, and nearly one in eight alumni continue practicing this skill in their career. Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and Customer Service are desirable skills as well.

Benefits and Perks

Lacking in the benefits department, just two-fifths of alumni report compensation for sick days and only one in three grads get vacation time. Dental insurance applies to a majority of alums, and the greater part of alumni report health coverage. A solid majority of alums allocate some part of their earnings to a company-sponsored 401(k) savings plan. Other benefits that East Carolina University alumni receive are life insurance, a company-subsidized cell phone, a casual working environment, and tuition reimbursement.

Related Schools

Middle Tennessee State University graduates, who earn $52K on average, make a similar amount to ECU grads. East Tennessee State University, South Carolina State University, and Tennessee State University are also similar to ECU.
