Graduates of ECU are found working in a number of different fields including the banking industry, the health care services industry, and the education industry. The most popular career sector among alumni is the health care industry. Those with a degree from ECU make an average of $51K.

Living in Greenville after college is common among East Carolina University grads, whose love for the area is more important than the below-average median pay ($46K). In addition, ECU grads flock to neighboring Charlotte, N.C. as well as Durham, N.C.

Degree Major

Former Pirates who fare the best in terms of salary hold a Master of Social Work (MSW), Clinical Social Work (CSW) and earn a median salary of $85K per year. A Bachelor of Science in Business Administration offers the lowest median annual financial reward (around $32K).


Many former ECU students are familiar with Project Management, and about a seventh of grads move on to positions where this experience is utilized. Former Pirates who have experience with Budget Management can expect to make 26 percent more than other alumni (about $65K on average). Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and Customer Service command top-of-the-line rewards as well.

Benefits and Perks

When it comes to benefits, there is room for improvement — only two-fifths of alumni are paid for vacation and just one-third of alumni for sick time. Most alums participate in a 401(k) retirement savings plan. Health insurance benefits extend to a large number of graduates, and more than half of graduates sign up for dental plans.
