Many ECU students are Raleigh, N.C.-bound following college. ECU grads also flock to Durham, N.C., which is home to salaries significantly above average (median pay is about $125K). East Carolina University alumni often stay in Greenville following graduation despite having one of the lowest median salary among popular cities ($43K). Neighboring Charlotte, N.C. is another common pick among ECU grads, along with New York, N.Y.
ECU grads who hold a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (CS) can expect to fare better than most fellow alumni, earning an average around $103K per year. On the other end of the spectrum, those with a B.A. in Bachelor of Arts (BA) tend to do the worst in terms of salary, making an average $35K per year.
Knowledge of C# Programming Language seems to be related to bigger paychecks; in fact, skilled alumni bring in salaries that are 88 percent more than their former classmates' salaries (about $97K). Operations Management is a popular skill among ECU alumni, with close to a tenth of workers reporting using it on the job. Other top skills include Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Project Management, and Customer Service.
Benefits and Perks
As for time away from work, close to half of the survey participants are compensated for vacation days, but only one in three grads can take paid time off due to illness. A strong majority of respondents enjoy benefits like health insurance, while a majority of former students receive dental plans, too. A strong majority of grads allocate some part of their earnings to a company-sponsored 401(k) savings plan. East Carolina University alumni are also on the receiving end of life insurance, a casual working environment, a company-subsidized cell phone, and free drinks.
Among alumni of similar schools, Middle Tennessee State University grads (who make an average of $53K) earn salaries most similar to ECU alumni. East Tennessee State University, South Carolina State University, and Tennessee State University are also similar to ECU.
