Graduates of ECU are found working in a number of different fields including the health care services industry, clinical care, and the education industry. The most highly represented industry among alumni is the health care industry. The average salary for a grad from ECU is $53K.


The biggest paychecks among ECU alumni are earned by Manufacturing Engineers — these former students make a median salary of about $63K per year. The most popular destination for former ECU students is Raleigh, N.C. ECU alumni seeking the highest salaries end up in Durham, N.C., which offers a median salary of $60K. On the other end, ECU grads flock to Wilmington, N.C., which actually offers the weakest median salary of approximately $40K. Other cities of interest among ECU alumni include nearby Greenville, N.C. and Charlotte, N.C.

Degree Major

Among the highest-paid ECU alumni are those with a Master of Social Work (MSW), Clinical Social Work (CSW) — they earn close to $85K on average per year. A Bachelor of Science in Business Administration is less advantageous in terms of earnings; alums with this degree are the lowest earners with a median annual pay of approximately $32K.


Around one in six ECU grads wind up using Project Management at their job, which is one of the most common skills among alumni. Former Pirates with Project Management abilities can expect to make 25 percent more than their former classmates ($65K). In addition, those who are savvy in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and Customer Service are also considered highly skilled.

Benefits and Perks

When it comes to benefits, there is room for improvement — only two-fifths of alumni are paid for vacation and just one in three grads for sick time. A strong majority of graduates participate in a 401(k) program. Health benefits extend to a fair number of graduates, and a majority of grads also receive dental coverage. East Carolina University grads are also lucky enough to receive life insurance, tuition reimbursement, a casual working environment, and a company-subsidized cell phone.
