Industry

Professionally, clinical care, the banking industry, and the chemical manufacturing industry are popular business areas among ETSU alumni. The majority of alumni accept jobs in the health care industry. Less than two percent of ETSU grads move into the dentist's office industry industry — it is the road least traveled for this demographic. ETSU graduates see an estimated starting salary of $52K.

Gender

It's worth noting that female graduates earn a median salary of $50K whereas the men's median is around $60K.

Jobs

Among ETSU alumni, those working as Software Engineers report the highest median pay of approximately $80K, followed by IT Business Analysts (about $69K), and Executive Directors ($67K). Sitting at the bottom of the pay scale are Social Workers, making an average of $36K.

Locations

ETSU alumni typically remain in Johnson City, the city they've grown to love, after graduation, and just under a fifth of grads find permanent positions in the workforce here. It is no surprise that Knoxville, which hands out the biggest paychecks (the average salary is $66K), is another of the most popular spots for former ETSU students. The city with the lowest median paycheck frequented by ETSU alumni is Greeneville, where earnings average $34K. Other common destinations for ETSU grads include close-by Kingsport and Atlanta.

Employers

Graduates of ETSU can earn the biggest bucks at Mountain States Health Alliance ($71K). Alumni looking to pad their bank accounts should steer clear of CGI Federal; the median salary there is $49K, which is considerably lower than the overall median for all ETSU graduates.

Degree Major

A graduate with a medical degree from ETSU can rake in a whopping approximately $170K per year, more than any other degree from this school. Those with a Bachelor of Science in History face salaries on the lower end, coming in close to around $30K per year.

Skills

For former Buccaneers, proficiency in Budget Management warrants a paycheck that is 42 percent more than other alumni salaries. Many ETSU grads have knowledge of Microsoft Office, with less than ten percent of alumni using this program on the clock. Experience with Microsoft Excel, Customer Service, and Project Management is highly valued as well.

Benefits and Perks

As for time away from work, slightly more than half of the respondents are compensated for vacation days, but only one-third of alumni can take paid time off due to illness. A fair portion of former students save for retirement through a 401(k) plan. For this school, most respondents are the recipients of health benefits, and a majority of former students pick up dental plans, too. Other benefits awarded to East Tennessee State University alumni include life insurance, a casual working environment, tuition reimbursement, and a company-subsidized cell phone.

Related Schools

Compensation averages about $52K for Texas a & M University alumni, making their earnings most comparable to ETSU grads. Other schools similar to ETSU include Middle Tennessee State University, Tennessee State University, and East Carolina University.
