ESU alumni find work in an assortment of industries including the banking industry, the health care industry, and the manufacturing industry. The most popular field is the education industry. Despite the excellent SAT scores reported by ESU alumni, former students go on to earn relatively modest salaries. The average salary for a grad from ESU is approximately $48K.


In the ESU alumni community, men make a median salary of $67K compared to their female counterparts, who earn $45K.


Among ESU alumni, those working as Chief Financial Officers report the highest median pay of around $200K, followed by Senior Project Engineers ($84K), and Software Engineers ($83K). Collecting the smallest paychecks are Product Marketing Specialists — they bring in about $35K.


When it comes to compensation, Emporia brings up the rear (median pay is $35K); however, around one in seven ESU alumni still choose not to leave this city. On the opposite end of the pay scale is Houston, a top-paying city for ESU grads looking to earn a larger-than-average sum (this city has a median pay of approximately $85K). Close-by Wichita and Overland Park are also desirable cities among ESU alumni.

Degree Major

Financial compensation is highest for ESU grads with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics (earnings climb to $100K per year). Annual salaries for those with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology are the lowest of the pack, earning $27K.


Microsoft Office is a popular skill among ESU alumni, with around a sixth of workers reporting using it on the job. Former Hornets with Project Management experience garner salaries that are 73 percent more than other grads' salaries. Microsoft Excel, Customer Service, and Project Management are among other dominant skills.

Benefits and Perks

Though vacation and sick days are paid for some, these benefits are reported by the minority of graduates (half of the alumni and one-third of alumni, respectively). In an effort to save up for the years ahead, a strong majority of survey participants contribute to a 401(k). Health benefits extend to the greater part of respondents, and a majority of respondents also receive dental coverage. Graduates of Emporia State University are also recipients of life insurance, a casual working environment, a company-subsidized cell phone, and tuition reimbursement.
