Industry

ESU alumni find work in an assortment of industries including the banking industry, the retail industry, and the public library industry. Among ESU grads, the education industry is a commonly chosen career field. Unfortunately, former ESU students — a population with excellent SAT results — report salaries on the lower end of the pay scale. Starting salaries of $49K are the median among ESU grads.

Gender

Male graduates on average earn more than female graduates; the first group banks $65K per year, but the second group takes home only $48K.

Jobs

Former ESU students with an interest in making money consider becoming Chief Financial Officers, the highest-paying gig (average earnings amount to approximately $200K) among this alumni group. Other well-paid jobs include Presidents (around $146K) and Senior Project Engineers (about $84K). High School Teachers face rather mediocre compensation — average salaries are actually the lowest at $45K.

Locations

For reasons other than money, ESU grads are most commonly found still living in Emporia, Kan., where median pay sits at the bottom of the pay scale ($38K). Alternatively, Houston, Texas is home to some of the highest salaries — median pay is $70K — which is an (obvious) draw for many ESU grads. Other popular cities for ESU alumni include nearby Wichita, Kan. and Lawrence, Kan.

Degree Major

Former Hornets who fare the best in terms of salary hold a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology (IT) and earn a median salary of $86K per year. Graduates holding a B.A. in Communication fare the worst in terms of compensation with an average yearly salary of $29K.

Skills

Microsoft Office is a common skill among ESU alumni — a little less than a fifth of grads mention using it at work. For former Hornets, proficiency in Strategic Planning warrants a paycheck that is 233 percent more than other alumni salaries. In addition, those who are savvy in Customer Service, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word are also considered highly skilled.

Benefits and Perks

Although just under half of the alumni are compensated for vacation days, only one in three grads are paid for sick time. It is no small feat that a fair number of respondents are given health coverage, and more than half of graduates accept dental insurance. A fair number of alumni allocate some part of their earnings to a company-sponsored 401(k) savings plan. Additional benefits handed to Emporia State University alumni include life insurance, a company-subsidized cell phone, a casual working environment, and tuition reimbursement.

Related Schools

Missouri State University grads report the most similar salaries to ESU alums, earning about $49K on average. The University of Central Missouri, Pittsburg State University, and Fort Hays State University are also similar to ESU.
