The banking industry, the public library industry, and the retail industry are just a few of the areas in which ESU grads find work. The education industry is the sector most highly represented among alumni. For ESU alumni, high SAT scores do not correlate to high-paying positions in the workforce. Graduates of ESU earn $48K on average.

After graduation, disparities in salary rise to the surface — males earn an average about $61K per year compared to females' $49K.

ESU grads who become Chief Financial Officers garner financial rewards beyond any other job type for this group — these alumni rake in an average $200K annually. However, Presidents and Senior Project Engineers also rank as top-earners (bringing in $146K and approximately $84K, respectively). Sitting at the bottom of the pay scale are High School Teachers who make an average of around $45K.

Infamous for its meager salaries (average pay is the lowest at $38K), about one in seven ESU students still call Emporia, Kan. their home after graduation. Alternatively, Lenexa, Kan. is home to some of the highest salaries — median pay is $92K — which is an (obvious) draw for many ESU grads. Nearby Wichita, Kan. and Lawrence, Kan. also rank high on the list of cities for ESU grads.

Degree Major

Among the highest-paid ESU alumni are those with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology (IT) — they earn close to about $86K on average per year. On the other end of the spectrum, those with a B.A. in Communication tend to do the worst in terms of salary, making an average $29K per year.

Microsoft Office is a popular skill among ESU alumni, with roughly a fifth of workers reporting using it on the job. For former Hornets, proficiency in Financial Analysis warrants a paycheck that is 65 percent more than other alumni salaries. In addition, those who are savvy in Microsoft Excel, Customer Service, and Microsoft Word are also considered highly skilled.

Benefits and Perks

Paid time off due to illness is less common here than paid vacation time, slightly more than a third of respondents report receiving the former, whereas just half of the alumni report receiving the latter. A fair number of grads allocate some part of their earnings to a company-sponsored 401(k) savings plan. For this school, a strong majority of alums are the recipients of health benefits, and the larger part of alums pick up dental plans, too. Other benefits awarded to Emporia State University alumni include life insurance, a casual working environment, a company-subsidized cell phone, and tuition reimbursement.

Related Schools

Alumni of Missouri State University pick up average paychecks of around $49K, which is closest to the amount made by ESU grads among similar schools. Other schools similar to ESU include the University of Central Missouri, Pittsburg State University, and Fort Hays State University.
