Industry

Professionally, the banking industry, the public library industry, and the retail industry are popular business areas among ESU alumni. The education industry is the sector most highly represented among alumni. ESU students do not advance into high-paying positions after graduation despite their impressive SAT results. Starting salaries of $48K are the median among ESU grads.

Gender

After graduation, women go on to earn an average of $48K per year compared to men, who earn around $65K.

Jobs

Former ESU students with an interest in making money consider becoming Chief Financial Officers, the highest-paying gig (average earnings amount to approximately $200K) among this alumni group. Other well-paid jobs include Presidents ($146K) and Senior Project Engineers (about $84K). Relative to other positions, compensation dwindles for High School Teachers; alumni in this role face average salaries of $45K.

Locations

Though Emporia, Kan. offers the least in terms of financial rewards (median pay is the lowest at about $38K), around a seventh of ESU students continue living here after college. Houston, Texas is on the other end of the salary spectrum, offering top-notch pay and a median salary of approximately $70K; it's no wonder that ESU grads are attracted to this city. Other common destinations for ESU grads include close-by Wichita, Kan. and Lawrence, Kan.

Degree Major

A Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology (IT) leads to the highest pay for ESU grads ($86K on average per year). A B.A. in Communication commands less pay, and these degree-holders face median pay of $29K.

Skills

Many former ESU students are familiar with Microsoft Office, and slightly less than a fifth of grads move on to positions where this experience is utilized. Strategic Planning commands a pay premium of 236 percent for former Hornets. Customer Service, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word are among other dominant skills.

Benefits and Perks

When it comes to paid time off, there is more lenience involving vacation than illness; a little less than half of the graduates get vacation time, whereas just one in three grads get paid sick leave. A strong majority of grads participate in a 401(k) program. It is no small feat that a strong majority of graduates are given health coverage, and the larger part of grads accept dental insurance. Additional benefits handed to Emporia State University alumni include life insurance, a casual working environment, a company-subsidized cell phone, and tuition reimbursement.

Related Schools

Compensation averages $49K for Missouri State University alumni, making their earnings most comparable to ESU grads. The University of Central Missouri, Pittsburg State University, and Fort Hays State University are also similar to ESU.
