Hope alumni can most commonly be found in the wholesale distribution industry, law, and the religious private k-12 education industry, though they are employed throughout a wide range of sectors. The majority of alumni accept jobs in the health insurance industry. Salaries are quite modest for Hope alumni, inconsistent with the impressive SAT results reported by this group. Starting salaries of $50K are the median among Hope grads.


Hope grads who become Project Engineers are compensated well above average — these folks are top-earners among their graduating class, making an average around $70K yearly. Also notably well-paid are Human Resources Managers and Software Developers; their salaries approach approximately $62K and about $51K, respectively. Relative to other positions, compensation dwindles for Marketing Coordinators; alumni in this role face average salaries of $36K.


A large number of students head to Grand Rapids, Mich. after college. Hope alumni seeking the highest salaries end up in Zeeland, Mich., which offers a median salary of $91K. Hope grads love their alma mater so much that many stick around in Holland despite the median salary there ranking lowest among popular cities ($43K). In addition, grads flock to Chicago, Ill. as well as Philadelphia, Pa.

Degree Major

Hope students with a B.A. in Business Administration can expect to make the most money ($104K on average per year) compared to their fellow graduates. A B.A. in English Language offers the lowest median annual financial reward ($35K).


Knowledge of Project Management seems to be related to bigger paychecks; in fact, skilled alumni bring in salaries that are 64 percent more than their former classmates' salaries (around $81K). Hope alumni are often well versed in Marketing Communications, with roughly one in eight grads ending up in jobs that require this skillset. Demonstrated ability in Microsoft Office, Social Media Marketing, and Microsoft Excel rank among leading skills as well.

Benefits and Perks

Though vacation and sick days are paid for some, these benefits are reported by the minority of graduates (two-fifths of alumni and one-fourth of alumni, respectively). A strong majority of grads plan for retirement by taking advantage of a company-sponsored 401(k) program. A strong majority of graduates have medical plans, and more than half of grads have dental insurance. Hope College graduates also take advantage of life insurance, a company-subsidized cell phone, a casual working environment, and flexible hours.
