Graduates of HBU go into the oil drilling, pump, and oilfield supplies manufacturing industry, the health care services industry, and software as a service (SAAS) development, not to mention a variety of other lines of work. A large chunk of former HBU students are employed in the oil and gas field services industry; in fact, this is the most popular job sector for this population. HBU graduates in religious service are hard pressed to find, with less than five percent of former students taking up work in this field. Starting salaries of about $58K are the median among HBU grads.

After graduation, women go on to earn an average of approximately $55K per year compared to men, who earn $71K.

HBU grads who become Purchasing Coordinators are compensated well above average — these folks are top-earners among their graduating class, making an average $54K yearly. Also notably well-paid are Human Resources Managers — their salaries approach $51K. Assistant Editors wrap up the bottom of the pay scale, earning around $32K.

HBU alumni like Houston so much that they tend to stick around after graduation, with the larger part of grads staying on to find permanent employment. Another city that attracts a wealth of HBU grads is Houston, Texas; given its high compensation ($60K is the average salary), the city's popularity should come as no surprise. Though Fort Worth, Texas takes the cake for lowest pay among HBU grads (the median salary is approximately $41K there), it remains a common destination for former students. Nearby Dallas, Texas is also a top pick for HBU grads, as is Charlotte, N.C.

Degree Major

A graduate with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from HBU can rake in a whopping average $88K per year, more than any other degree from this school. Graduates holding a B.A. in Accounting fare the worst in terms of compensation with an average yearly salary of around $43K.

Microsoft Office is a common skill among HBU alumni — around a seventh of grads mention using it at work. Competency in Recruiting translates into above-average pay for former Huskies — they earn 32 percent more than their fellow graduates. Other top skills include Microsoft Excel, Project Management, and Customer Relationship Management (CRM).

Benefits and Perks

Benefits include paid time off, but vacation days are more heavily handed out than sick days; slightly more than half of the graduates report receiving the former, but only one in three grads report receiving the latter. Most respondents participate in a 401(k) program. Dental insurance applies to most grads, and a large number of graduates report health coverage. Additional benefits handed to Houston Baptist University alumni include a casual working environment, life insurance, a company-subsidized cell phone, and tuition reimbursement.

Related Schools

Among alumni of similar schools, Jacksonville University grads (who make an average of $60K) earn salaries most similar to HBU alumni. Trinity University, Hardin-Simmons University, and Samford University are also similar to HBU.
