Graduates of ISU head into a range of vocations when it comes to work; the health care industry, public K-12 education, and the shipping, transportation, warehousing, or logistics industry are just a few professional areas popular among alumni. The most popular professional field seems to be the education industry. Those with a degree from ISU make an average of about $56K.

After college, a notable gender gap appears: the average female graduate makes $46K where the average male graduate hauls home around $66K.

ISU grads who become Environmental Health & Safety Managers are compensated well above average — these folks are top-earners among their graduating class, making an average approximately $73K yearly. Also notably well-paid are Psychologists and Safety Managers; their salaries approach $72K and $60K, respectively. Mental Health Counselors face rather mediocre compensation — average salaries are actually the lowest at $37K.

The most popular destination for former ISU students is Indianapolis, Ind. ISU grads also flock to Chicago, Ill., which is home to salaries significantly above average (median pay is $69K). Many former Sycamores can't resist staying in Terre Haute after graduating despite the median salary there ranking lowest among popular cities (around $39K). Neighboring Jasper, Ind. is another common pick among ISU grads, along with Evansville, Ind.

Degree Major

ISU grads who hold a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management can expect to fare better than most fellow alumni, earning an average $98K per year. A Bachelor of Science in Criminology is less advantageous in terms of earnings; alums with this degree are the lowest earners with a median annual pay of about $40K.

Knowledge of Project Management seems to be related to bigger paychecks; in fact, skilled alumni bring in salaries that are 30 percent more than their former classmates' salaries ($73K). Microsoft Office is a common skill among ISU alumni — about a tenth of grads mention using it at work. Microsoft Excel, Project Management, and Operations Management are among other dominant skills.

Benefits and Perks

A lucky minority (about two-fifths of alumni) are fortunate enough to be compensated for vacation while just one in three grads get sick time. Most alums participate in a 401(k) retirement savings plan. A large number of alums receive health insurance, and a strong majority of former students get dental coverage. Indiana State University alumni are rewarded with additional benefits, such as life insurance, a company-subsidized cell phone, a casual working environment, and tuition reimbursement.

Related Schools

Median pay for Indiana University of Pennsylvania grads is approximately $56K, making their salaries most similar to those of ISU grads. Illinois State University, Tennessee State University, and Oakland University are also similar to ISU.
