Graduates of MO State work in a variety of sectors including the health care industry, the manufacturing industry, and the financial services industry. The most highly represented industry among alumni is the banking industry. Despite the excellent SAT scores reported by MO State alumni, former students go on to earn relatively modest salaries. The average starting salary for a graduate of MO State is $46K.


There is a sizable difference between men's post-college salaries and women's: the median for the former is about $53K, but the median for the latter is only around $43K.


MO State grads who become Software Engineers garner financial rewards beyond any other job type for this group — these alumni rake in $66K annually. However, Construction Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers of Construction also rank as top-earners (bringing in $60K and approximately $50K, respectively). On the lower end, Marketing Directors report making $32K.


Springfield is a city beloved by MO State alumni, and slightly less than a third of grads actually choose to stay and find employment here after completing their coursework. Another city that attracts a wealth of MO State grads is Seattle; given its high compensation (about $61K is the average salary), the city's popularity should come as no surprise. The city with the lowest median paycheck frequented by MO State alumni is Branson, where earnings average $38K. Close-by St. Louis and Kansas City are also desirable cities among MO State alumni.

Degree Major

With annual earnings of $86K per year, former Bears who have a Master of Science (MS), Physician Assistant Studies are the best paid among the alumni population. Ranking last in the compensation department are those holding a Bachelor of Science in Psychology — their annual income amounts to $35K on average.


Microsoft Office is a popular skill among MO State alumni, with roughly one in eight workers reporting using it on the job. Former Bears with Project Management abilities can expect to make 30 percent more than their former classmates (approximately $60K). Experience with Microsoft Excel, Project Management, and Customer Service is highly valued as well.

Benefits and Perks

Only half of the alumni earn paid vacation and just one in three grads get paid sick time. A solid majority of grads set up a 401(k) to save for retirement. The greater part of alumni enjoy benefits like health insurance, while a majority of grads receive dental plans, too. Alumni of Missouri State University also take in life insurance, a casual working environment, a company-subsidized cell phone, and tuition reimbursement.
