MSU alumni can most commonly be found in the education industry, the banking industry, and the financial services industry, though they are employed throughout a wide range of sectors. The most highly represented industry among alumni is the health care industry. Less than five percent of MSU grads move into clinical care — it is the road least traveled for this demographic. Unfortunately, former MSU students — a population with excellent SAT results — report salaries on the lower end of the pay scale. MSU graduates see an average starting salary of about $47K.

After graduation, disparities in salary rise to the surface — males earn an average $66K per year compared to females' around $42K.

The most generous salaries among MSU alumni are reportedly earned by Information Technology Directors, whose median earnings come to $104K, followed by Network Engineers ($57K) and Revenue Cycle Analysts (approximately $31K). Collecting the smallest paychecks are Case Managers — they bring in $29K.

Many MSU students are Lexington, Ky.-bound following college. It is also not uncommon to find former MSU students living and working in Louisville, Ky. — this top-paying city is a popular destination with a median salary of approximately $70K. On the other end, MSU grads flock to Ashland, Ky., which actually offers the weakest median salary of about $31K. Cincinnati, Ohio is also a top pick, as is Morehead, Ky.

Degree Major

With a median annual earnings of $140K per year, former Eagles who have a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Accounting are the best paid among the alumni population. A bachelor's degree in social work commands less pay, and these degree-holders face median pay of $31K.

Microsoft Word commands a pay premium of 69 percent for former Eagles. MSU grads are usually competent in Customer Service, and nearly one-seventh of alumni continue practicing this skill in their career. Demonstrated ability in Microsoft Office, Budget Management, and Microsoft Excel rank among leading skills as well.

Benefits and Perks

Just one in three grads enjoy paid vacation and merely one in four survey participants get paid sick time. Dental insurance applies to a majority of former students, and most grads report health coverage. A large number of graduates plan for retirement by taking advantage of a company-sponsored 401(k) program. Other benefits that Morehead State University alumni receive are life insurance, a company-subsidized cell phone, flexible hours, and a casual working environment.

Related Schools

Median pay for Indiana University grads is $48K, making their salaries most similar to those of MSU grads. Marshall University, Eastern Kentucky University, and Northern Kentucky University are also similar to MSU.
