The financial services industry, the health care industry, and the transportation industry are just a few of the areas in which Northwest grads find work. The most popular professional field seems to be the education industry. Despite the excellent SAT scores reported by Northwest alumni, former students go on to earn relatively modest salaries. Following graduation, Northwest students earn an average of around $48K.


After graduation, disparities in salary rise to the surface — males earn an average approximately $58K per year compared to females' $41K.


Northwest grads who become Software Engineers are compensated well above average — these folks are top-earners among their graduating class, making an average $90K yearly. Also notably well-paid are Digital Marketing Managers and Account Managers; their salaries approach about $51K and $48K, respectively. Business Analysts face rather mediocre compensation — average salaries are actually the lowest at $43K.


Kansas City, Mo. is a hot spot for Northwest alum. Northwest grads also flock to Denver, Colo., which is home to salaries significantly above average (median pay is around $80K). On the flipside, the lowest-paying city popular among Northwest grads is St. Joseph, Mo. (median compensation is $39K). Other cities of interest include Des Moines, Iowa and Maryville, Mo.

Degree Major

With a median annual earnings of $96K per year, former Bearcats who have a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems (MIS) are the best paid among the alumni population. A Bachelor of Science in Psychology offers the lowest median annual financial reward (about $38K).


Roughly a seventh of grads report using Project Management as part of their job, making it the most popular skill. Former Bearcats with Project Management experience garner salaries that are 57 percent more than other grads' salaries. Also considered top-notch skills are Customer Service, Microsoft Office, and People Management.

Benefits and Perks

As for time away from work, approximately half of the graduates are compensated for vacation days, but only one in three grads can take paid time off due to illness. Health coverage is awarded to almost all survey participants, and dental insurance is issued to a strong majority of grads as well. To plan for old age, almost all grads maintain savings accounts through a company's 401(k) plan. Northwest Missouri State University grads are also lucky enough to receive life insurance, a casual working environment, a company-subsidized cell phone, and flexible hours.
