Professionally, the education industry, the manufacturing industry, and the health care industry are popular business areas among Northwest alumni. Among Northwest grads, the financial services industry is a commonly chosen career field. Unfortunately, former Northwest students — a population with excellent SAT results — report salaries on the lower end of the pay scale. Following graduation, Northwest students earn an average of approximately $49K.


Male graduates of Northwest out-earn their female counterparts significantly, earning an average of $56K versus $44K for women.


The biggest paychecks among Northwest alumni are earned by VPs of Commercial Lending — these former students make about $120K per year. The next biggest paychecks go to Senior Web Developers ($72K) and Operations Managers ($55K). On the lower end, Business Analysts report making around $43K.


Kansas City is filled with Northwest grads. The top-paying city popular with Northwest alumni is Denver, which offers median salaries of $70K. Northwest alumni in Omaha can often be found sliding in at the lower end of the pay scale, where median paychecks are the smallest at about $36K. Graduates also relocate to Des Moines and Maryville.

Degree Major

With annual earnings of $120K per year, former Bearcats who have a Bachelor of Science in Social Science are the best paid among the alumni population. Annual salaries for those with a Bachelor of Science in General Business are the lowest of the pack, earning around $33K.


Knowledge of Financial Analysis seems to be related to bigger paychecks; in fact, skilled alumni bring in salaries that are 137 percent more than their former classmates' salaries ($117K). Customer Service is a popular skill among Northwest alumni, with approximately one in eight workers reporting using it on the job. In addition, those who are savvy in Project Management, Microsoft Office, and People Management are also considered highly skilled.

Benefits and Perks

A lucky minority (about two-fifths of alumni) are fortunate enough to be compensated for vacation while just one in three grads get sick time. Health coverage is awarded to a solid majority of alums, and dental insurance is issued to a majority of grads as well. A strong majority of former students save for retirement through a 401(k) plan. Northwest Missouri State University grads are also lucky enough to receive life insurance, a casual working environment, a company-subsidized cell phone, and tuition reimbursement.
