Graduates of Northwest work in a variety of industries including the education industry, the manufacturing industry, and the health care industry. A large chunk of former Northwest students are employed in the financial services industry; in fact, this is the most popular job sector for this population. For Northwest alumni, high SAT scores do not correlate to high-paying positions in the workforce. The average salary for a grad from Northwest is approximately $49K.


After college, a notable gender gap appears: the average female graduate makes about $44K where the average male graduate hauls home $55K.


Among Northwest graduates, the biggest earners are VPs of Commercial Lending, who haul in $120K on average. Next on the list are Senior Web Developers and Operations Managers, bringing in $72K and $55K, respectively. Sliding in near the bottom are Business Analysts, who report earnings of around $43K.


The most popular destination for former Northwest students is Kansas City. Another city that attracts a wealth of Northwest grads is Denver; given its high compensation (about $70K is the average salary), the city's popularity should come as no surprise. For comparison, the lowest paying city popular with Northwest alumni is Omaha, which offers median salaries of $36K. Des Moines and Maryville also rank high on the list of cities.

Degree Major

Northwest grads who hold a Bachelor of Science in Social Science can expect to fare better than most fellow alumni, earning $120K per year. On the other end of the spectrum, those with a Bachelor of Science in General Business tend to do the worst in terms of salary, making approximately $33K per year.


Nearly one in eight grads report using Customer Service as part of their job, making it the most popular skill. Competency in Financial Analysis translates into above-average pay for former Bearcats — they earn 139 percent more than their fellow graduates. Other top skills include Project Management, Microsoft Office, and People Management.

Benefits and Perks

Only about half of the alumni enjoy paid vacation and one-third of alumni receive sick leave. A strong majority of former students opt for a 401(k) to save for retirement. A strong majority of grads receive health insurance, and a majority of alums get dental coverage. Alumni of Northwest Missouri State University also take in life insurance, a casual working environment, a company-subsidized cell phone, and tuition reimbursement.
