Industry

Graduates of SMC go into the construction industry, public K-12 education, and the financial services industry, not to mention a variety of other lines of work. A large chunk of former SMC students are employed in IT consulting; in fact, this is the most popular job sector for this population. Those with a degree from SMC tend to make $71K.

Gender

After graduation, women go on to earn an average of about $68K per year compared to men, who earn $84K.

Jobs

VPs of Finance and Chief Financial Officers win the contest for best-paid SMC alumni, typically making $245K every year, though Information Management Specialists (approximately $108K), and Business Operations Managers ($107K) are not far behind. Relative to other positions, compensation dwindles for Financial Analysts; alumni in this role face average salaries of around $62K.

Locations

Those with a degree from SMC often relocate to San Francisco after college. It is no surprise that San Jose, which hands out the biggest paychecks (the average salary is approximately $111K), is another of the most popular spots for former SMC students. Though Sacramento takes the cake for lowest pay among SMC grads (the median salary is $61K there), it remains a common destination for former students. Close-by San Ramon and Oakland are also desirable cities among SMC alumni.

Degree Major

An Executive Masters of Business Administration (Exec MBA), Business Management leads to the highest pay for SMC grads (around $134K per year). Graduates holding a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) fare the worst in terms of compensation with yearly salaries of $57K.

Skills

Competency in Operations Management translates into above-average pay for former Gaels — they earn 49 percent more than their fellow graduates. Many former SMC students are familiar with Project Management, and somewhere between a fifth and a fourth of grads move on to positions where this experience is utilized. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, and Financial Analysis command top-of-the-line rewards as well.

Benefits and Perks

Only about half of the alumni enjoy paid vacation and one in three grads receive sick leave. The greater part of alums report contributing to a 401(k). It is no small feat that a solid majority of grads are given health coverage, and most graduates accept dental insurance. Saint Marys College of California alumni are rewarded with additional benefits, such as a casual working environment, a company-subsidized cell phone, life insurance, and tuition reimbursement.

Related Schools

Alumni of California Lutheran University pick up average paychecks of $70K, which is closest to the amount made by SMC grads among similar schools. Santa Clara University, Monterey Institute of International Studies, and Antioch University-Los Angeles are also similar to SMC.
