Industry

Among Savannah State grads, clinical care is a commonly chosen career field. Unfortunately, former Savannah State students — a population with excellent SAT results — report salaries on the lower end of the pay scale. The average starting salary for a graduate of Savannah State is around $50K.

Gender

There is a sizable difference between men's post-college salaries and women's: the median for the former is about $62K, but the median for the latter is only $38K.

Locations

Despite handing out the worst average salary ($54K), Savannah, Ga. holds on to its Savannah State student population, and more than a third of grads continue to reside in the city. However, Savannah State grads looking to fill their bank accounts consider moving to Atlanta, Ga. — one of the most popular top-paying cities — with its median salary of approximately $55K.

Degree Major

Savannah State grads who hold a Master of Social Work (MSW), Clinical Social Work (CSW) can expect to fare better than most fellow alumni, earning an average $57K per year. A Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Business Management commands less pay, and these degree-holders face median pay of $45K.

Skills

For former Tigers, proficiency in Case Management warrants a paycheck that is 13 percent more than other alumni salaries. One-tenth of grads report using Case Management as part of their job, making it the most popular skill. Experience with Account Management, Microsoft Word, and Office Administration is highly valued as well.

Benefits and Perks

When it comes to benefits, there is room for improvement — only two-fifths of alumni are paid for vacation and just two-fifths of alumni for sick time. Most survey participants receive health insurance, and a fair number of grads get dental coverage. A large number of respondents save for retirement through a 401(k) plan. Savannah State University grads also enjoy benefits like life insurance, a company-subsidized cell phone, free drinks, and gym / health club / fitness membership.

Related Schools
