Southeast Missouri alumni belong to a wide range of sectors. A few fields in which grads tend to find work include the health care industry, the banking industry, and the education industry. The majority of alumni accept jobs in the manufacturing industry. Curiously, the high SAT results reported by Southeast Missouri alumni do not result in top-paid positions in the workforce — in fact, this group brings home rather low salaries. Graduates of Southeast Missouri earn $50K on average.


Male graduates on average earn more than female graduates; the first group banks $66K per year, but the second group takes home only about $45K.


The most lucrative professionals among Southeast Missouri alumni are Regional Sales Managers; they earn a median annual salary of approximately $85K. Also approaching the top of the pay scale at around $61K and $59K, respectively, are Human Resources Managers and Human Resources Directors. Sliding in near the bottom are Office Managers, who report earnings of $35K.


Cape Girardeau, Mo. is a hot spot for Southeast Missouri alum. Southeast Missouri alumni seeking the highest salaries end up in St. Louis, Mo., which offers a median salary of approximately $68K. On the flipside, the lowest-paying city popular among Southeast Missouri grads is San Antonio, Texas (median compensation is $40K). Southeast Missouri alumni express interest in nearby Sikeston, Mo. and Poplar Bluff, Mo. as well.

Degree Major

Former Redhawks who fare the best in terms of salary hold a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and earn a median salary of around $108K per year. Ranking last in the compensation department are those holding a Bachelor of Science in General Studies — their annual income amounts to $30K on average.


Former Redhawks with C# experience garner salaries that are 51 percent more than other grads' salaries. Microsoft Excel is a popular skill among Southeast Missouri alumni, with less than ten percent of grads reporting using it on the job. Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Microsoft Office, and Customer Service are desirable skills as well.

Benefits and Perks

Paid vacation days are a given for approximately half of the survey participants, but only one-fourth of alumni are rewarded with paid sick leave. Most grads save up for retirement through a 401(k) plan. Health insurance benefits extend to most survey participants, and more than half of grads sign up for dental plans. Additional benefits handed to Southeast Missouri State University alumni include life insurance, a company-subsidized cell phone, a casual working environment, and tuition reimbursement.
