It is no surprise that Dallas, Texas, which hands out the biggest paychecks (the average salary is approximately $85K), is another of the most popular spots for former SIU students. Among popular cities, the lowest average pay is found in Carbondale at about $36K. Regardless of salary, a large portion of Southern Illinois University Carbondale grads opt to live in the area following graduation. Other popular cities include St. Louis, Mo. and Marion, Ill.

Degree Major

Former Salukis who fare the best in terms of salary hold a medical degree and earn a median salary of $206K per year. A master's in social work is less advantageous in terms of earnings; alums with this degree are the lowest earners with a median annual pay of $36K.

Engineering Design commands a pay premium of 35 percent for former Salukis.
