Among SU grads, the education industry is a commonly chosen career field. The average salary for a grad from SU is $48K.

SU alumni like Baton Rouge so much that they tend to stick around after graduation, with one-fourth of grads staying on to find permanent employment.

Degree Major

A Bachelor's Degree will compensate SU grads at a much higher rate than other degrees — these alums rake in approximately $47K on average per year. Those with a Master of Arts (MA) face salaries on the lower end, coming in at an average $46K per year.

SU alumni are often well versed in Microsoft Office, with slightly less than a third of grads ending up in jobs that require this skillset. Former Jaguars with Microsoft Office abilities can expect to make 62 percent more than their former classmates (about $78K). Other prime know-hows include Microsoft Word, Customer Service, and Microsoft Excel.

Benefits and Perks

Benefits include paid time off, but vacation days are more heavily handed out than sick days; a fair number of graduates report receiving the former, but only two-fifths of alumni report receiving the latter. To plan for old age, more than half of graduates maintain savings accounts through a company's 401(k) plan. The larger part of alums have medical plans, and the larger part of survey participants have dental insurance. Graduates of Southern University and A & M College are also recipients of life insurance.

Related Schools

Among alumni of similar schools, Southeastern Louisiana University grads (who make an average of around $50K) earn salaries most similar to SU alumni. McNeese State University, Northwestern State University of Louisiana, and Stephen F Austin State University are also similar to SU.
