SU alumni can most commonly be found in the chemical manufacturing industry, the engineering services industry, and the manufacturing industry, though they are employed throughout a wide range of sectors. The majority of SU alumni wind up in the health care industry. The average salary for a grad from SU is approximately $56K.


Male graduates do tend to earn more than female graduates; the first group banks $67K per year, but the second group takes home only around $55K.


The biggest paychecks among SU alumni are earned by Reliability Engineers — these former students make $90K per year.


When it comes to compensation, Baton Rouge brings up the rear (median pay is about $49K); however, slightly less than a fourth of SU alumni still choose not to leave this city. On the opposite end of the pay scale is Houston, a top-paying city for SU grads looking to earn a larger-than-average sum (this city has a median pay of $90K). Plano and New Orleans are also desirable cities.

Degree Major

With annual earnings of $106K per year, former Jaguars who have a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering (EE) are the best paid among the alumni population. Annual salaries for those with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting are the lowest of the pack, earning $53K.


Former Jaguars who have experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) can expect to make nearly double other alumni (approximately $110K on average). Microsoft Excel is a common skill among SU alumni — nearly one in seven grads mention using it at work. Also considered top-notch skills are Microsoft Office, Project Management, and Microsoft Word.

Benefits and Perks

Only two-fifths of alumni earn paid vacation and just one-third of alumni get paid sick time. The greater part of former students save for retirement through a 401(k) plan. Health coverage is awarded to the greater part of grads, and dental insurance is issued to a fair portion of graduates as well. Additional benefits handed to Southern University and A & M College alumni include life insurance, a casual working environment, tuition reimbursement, and flexible hours.
