Graduates of SWOSU go into clinical care, the banking industry, and the oil drilling, pump, and oilfield supplies manufacturing industry, not to mention a variety of other lines of work. The majority of alumni accept jobs in the retail pharmacy or drugstore industry. SWOSU graduates in the health care industry are hard pressed to find, with less than five percent of former students taking up work in this field. Starting salaries of approximately $51K are the median among SWOSU grads.

A gender wage gap becomes apparent after college, with female graduates earning only $37K on average compared to around $81K for male graduates.

Many SWOSU grads end up living in Oklahoma City, Okla., deeming it the most popular city for former students of this school. It is no surprise that Houston, Texas, which hands out the biggest paychecks (the average salary is $109K), is another of the most popular spots for former SWOSU students. Many former Bulldogs can't resist staying in Weatherford after graduating despite the median salary there ranking lowest among popular cities ($39K). Close-by Clinton, Okla. and Dallas, Texas are also desirable cities among SWOSU alumni.

Degree Major

SWOSU students with a medical degree can expect to make the most money ($129K on average per year) compared to their fellow graduates. A Bachelor's Degree is less advantageous in terms of earnings; alums with this degree are the lowest earners with a median annual pay of about $59K.

Former Bulldogs who have experience with Retail Pharmacy can expect to make 130 percent more than other alumni (approximately $116K on average). Customer Service is a common skill among SWOSU alumni — close to an eighth of grads mention using it at work. Other prime know-hows include Retail Pharmacy, Data Entry, and Microsoft Excel.

Benefits and Perks

Although just over two-fifths of respondents are compensated for vacation days, only one in four survey participants are paid for sick time. For this school, a fair number of alums are the recipients of health benefits, and slightly more than half of the respondents pick up dental plans, too. A strong majority of survey participants allocate some part of their earnings to a company-sponsored 401(k) savings plan. Graduates of Southwestern Oklahoma State University are also recipients of life insurance, a casual working environment, flexible hours, and tuition reimbursement.

Related Schools

Compensation averages $53K for Henderson State University alumni, making their earnings most comparable to SWOSU grads. Midwestern State University, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, and Southern Arkansas University Main Campus are also similar to SWOSU.
