The UA alumni belong to a wide range of sectors. A few fields in which grads tend to find work include the financial services industry, the health care industry, and the automotive manufacturing industry. Among UA grads, the manufacturing industry is a commonly chosen career field. Following graduation, UA students earn an average of around $57K.


It's worth noting that female graduates earn a median salary of $46K whereas the men's median is $65K.


The biggest paychecks among UA alumni are earned by VPs of Sales — these former students make a median salary of about $132K per year. The next biggest paychecks go to Engineering Project Managers (approximately $95K) and Information Technology Project Managers ($90K). On the lower end, Graphic Designers report making $41K.


It is typical for many UA grads (around one in four former students) to remain in Akron, Ohio, which may come as a shock given the city's depressed salaries (median pay is approximately $48K). However, UA grads looking to fill their bank accounts consider moving to Denver, Colo. — one of the most popular top-paying cities — with its median salary of $96K. UA alumni express interest in nearby Columbus, Ohio and Canton, Ohio as well.

Degree Major

Among the highest-paid UA alumni are those with a Doctorate (PhD) — they earn close to $107K on average per year. Those holding a B.A. in Communication are less fortunate in terms of earnings, bringing in about $35K on average per year.


Many UA grads have knowledge of Microsoft Excel, with slightly less than a fifth of alumni using this program on the clock. Former Zips with Leadership experience garner salaries that are 36 percent more than other grads' salaries. In addition, those who are savvy in Project Management, Microsoft Office, and Data Analysis are also considered highly skilled.

Benefits and Perks

As for time away from work, nearly half of the respondents are compensated for vacation days, but only one in four survey participants can take paid time off due to illness. A large number of alumni plan for retirement by taking advantage of a company-sponsored 401(k) program. Health insurance benefits extend to most respondents, and more than half of survey participants sign up for dental plans. Alumni of University of Akron Main Campus also take in life insurance, a casual working environment, a company-subsidized cell phone, and tuition reimbursement.
