The most popular professional field seems to be the environmental consulting industry. Those with a degree from the UCSC make an average of $71K.
A large number of students head to Santa Cruz, Calif. after college. UCSC alumni seeking the highest salaries end up in San Jose, Calif., which offers a median salary of around $125K. On the flipside, the lowest-paying city popular among UCSC grads is San Francisco, Calif. (median compensation is $77K). Graduates of UCSC also relocate to San Diego, Calif., which is not far away, and New York, N.Y.
With a median annual earnings of $133K per year, former Banana Slugs who have a Master of Business Administration (MBA) are the best paid among the alumni population. A Bachelor of Science in Bachelor of Science (BS / BSc) is less advantageous in terms of earnings; alums with this degree are the lowest earners with a median annual pay of about $55K.
Knowledge of Strategic Planning seems to be related to bigger paychecks; in fact, skilled alumni bring in salaries that are 27 percent more than their former classmates' salaries (approximately $90K). Microsoft Excel is a common skill among UCSC alumni — roughly a seventh of grads mention using it at work. Project Management, Microsoft Office, and C++ Programming Language are among other dominant skills.
Benefits and Perks
When it comes to benefits, there is room for improvement — only two-fifths of alumni are paid for vacation and just one-fifth of alumni for sick time. Health coverage is awarded to a fair number of graduates, and dental insurance is issued to a fair number of survey participants as well. A strong majority of survey participants take advantage of a 401(k) plan. University of California grads are also lucky enough to receive a casual working environment, flexible hours, a company-subsidized cell phone, and stock options.
Alumni of University of Utah pick up average paychecks of $70K, which is closest to the amount made by UCSC grads among similar schools. Other schools similar to UCSC include the University of California-Berkeley, the University of California-Davis, and the University of California-Santa Barbara.
