It's worth noting that female graduates earn a median salary of around $50K whereas the men's median is $63K.


The biggest paychecks among UMaine alumni are earned by Software Developers — these former students make $82K per year. The next biggest paychecks go to Operations Managers (about $69K) and Mechanical Engineers ($65K). Salaries are anything but generous for Electrical Engineers, where earnings rank lowest on the pay scale at approximately $51K.


The most popular destination for former UMaine students is Portland. With a median salary of $72K, New York represents the highest-paid city popular among UMaine grads. Home to the lowest median salary for UMaine alumni is Augusta, a popular place for former students despite its around $49K average paycheck. Other cities of interest among UMaine alumni include nearby Bangor and Boston.

Degree Major

UMaine students with a Doctorate (PhD) can expect to make the most money ($93K per year) compared to their fellow graduates. Graduates holding a Bachelor of Science in Bachelor of Science (BS / BSc) fare the worst in terms of compensation with yearly salaries of approximately $33K.


Project Management is a popular skill among UMaine alumni, with roughly one in six grads reporting using it on the job. Former Black Bears with Budget Management experience garner salaries that are 30 percent more than other grads' salaries. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, and Engineering Design command top-of-the-line rewards as well.

Benefits and Perks

Only two-fifths of alumni for this school enjoy paid vacation days and about one-fourth of alumni get paid sick time. The greater part of graduates receive health insurance, and a majority of the survey participants get dental coverage. The greater part of alums save up for retirement through a 401(k) plan. University of Maine grads are also lucky enough to receive life insurance, a company-subsidized cell phone, a casual working environment, and tuition reimbursement.
