Former UMaine students are professionally suited for a wide range of fields including the manufacturing industry, the retail industry, and the construction industry. A large chunk of former UMaine students are employed in the health care industry; in fact, this is the most popular job sector for this population. Following graduation, UMaine students earn an average of approximately $57K.


The most generous salaries among UMaine alumni are reportedly earned by Financial Controllers, whose median earnings come to about $70K, followed by Product Engineers (around $69K) and Operations Managers ($68K). Salaries are anything but generous for Manufacturing Engineers, whose earnings rank lowest on the pay scale at $54K.


Home to a large number of UMaine alums, Portland, Maine is by far the most attractive city for these former students. It is also not uncommon to find former UMaine students living and working in New York, N.Y. — this top-paying city is a popular destination with a median salary of $79K. On the other end, UMaine grads flock to Richmond, Va., which actually offers the weakest median salary of $37K. Nearby Bangor, Maine is also a top pick for UMaine grads, as is Boston, Mass.

Degree Major

An Associate's Degree, Business & Marketing earns UMaine students the most money after college (an average about $130K per year). On the other end of the spectrum, those with a B.A. in Communication tend to do the worst in terms of salary, making an average approximately $40K per year.


Budget Management commands a pay premium of 35 percent for former Black Bears. UMaine alumni are often well versed in Microsoft Excel, with around a seventh of grads ending up in jobs that require this skillset. Proficiency in Project Management, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Word command top-of-the-line rewards as well.

Benefits and Perks

Only two-fifths of alumni earn paid vacation and just one in four survey participants get paid sick time. Most graduates plan for retirement by taking advantage of a company-sponsored 401(k) program. Dental insurance applies to the larger part of alums, and most grads report health coverage. Alumni of University of Maine also take in a company-subsidized cell phone, life insurance, a casual working environment, and tuition reimbursement.
