Professionally, the education industry, the banking industry, and IT services are popular business areas among VCU alumni. The majority of alumni accept jobs in the health care industry. Former VCU graduates bring in $52K on average.


There's a noticeable difference between the genders; where the average man hauls in around $63K after graduating from VCU, the average woman earns only $50K.


The most lucrative professionals among VCU alumni are Information Technology Managers; they earn a median annual salary of $77K. Also approaching the top of the pay scale at $58K and approximately $57K, respectively, are Construction Project Managers and Business Development Managers. Sitting at the bottom of the pay scale are Marketing Coordinators who make an average of about $41K.


Many VCU alumni seem to stick around Richmond after wrapping up their studies; over a third of grads remain to find permanent work. VCU alumni seeking the highest salaries end up in Mclean, Va., which offers a median salary of $88K. On the far end of the pay scale, VCU alumni often reside in Norfolk, Va., which is home to the lowest pay at about $38K. Other popular cities include Washington, DC and New York, N.Y.

Degree Major

A medical degree leads to the highest pay for VCU grads ($188K on average per year). Those holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), Graphic Design are less fortunate in terms of earnings, bringing in $40K on average per year.


Project Management commands a pay premium of 36 percent for former Rams. Project Management is a common skill among VCU alumni — about one in eight grads mention using it at work. Other prime know-hows include Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and Data Analysis.

Benefits and Perks

A lucky minority (about one-third of alumni) are fortunate enough to be compensated for vacation while just one-fifth of alumni get sick time. Health coverage is awarded to most graduates, and dental insurance is issued to a strong majority of graduates as well. Most grads participate in a 401(k) retirement savings plan. Virginia Commonwealth University alumni are also on the receiving end of life insurance, a casual working environment, tuition reimbursement, and a company-subsidized cell phone.
