The most popular field is the aerospace and defense industry. Those with a degree from WSU make an average of $62K.

There is a sizable difference between men's post-college salaries and women's: the median for the former is $74K, but the median for the latter is only about $59K.

WSU grads who become Aerospace Engineers garner financial rewards beyond any other job type for this group — these alumni rake in an average approximately $81K annually. However, Industrial Engineers and Mechanical Engineers also rank as top-earners (bringing in $68K and around $66K, respectively). On the lower end, Marketing Specialists report making $45K.

WSU alumni like Wichita so much that they tend to stick around after graduation, with a little more than half of grads staying on to find permanent employment. Houston, Texas is also a common destination for WSU grads and offers the best pay with a median salary of $107K. For comparison, the lowest-paying city popular with WSU alumni is Midway, Utah, which offers a median salary of approximately $44K. A B.A. in Education is less advantageous in terms of earnings; alums with this degree are the lowest earners with a median annual pay of about $39K.

Former Shockers with Project Management abilities can expect to make 19 percent more than their former classmates ($73K). Microsoft Office is a popular skill among WSU alumni, with roughly one in five workers reporting using it on the job. Other top skills include Microsoft Excel, Project Management, and Engineering Design.

Benefits and Perks

As for time away from work, slightly less than half of the respondents are compensated for vacation days, but only one in three grads can take paid time off due to illness. Health coverage is awarded to most survey participants, and dental insurance is issued to a fair number of graduates as well. A large number of former students set aside retirement funds in an employer-sponsored 401(k). Other benefits that Wichita State University alumni receive are life insurance, a company-subsidized cell phone, a casual working environment, and flexible hours.
