Computer based training is a great way to learn new technology quickly and it is affordable for anyone. I am not big on certifications, but I must say they will open doors especially when dealing with inexperienced recruiters, managers, human resource people.

Requested raise every year for 8 years. Every year management claims I am over paid for my position. The rest of the company has been getting at least cost of living raises most years.

It's a bad idea to involve in office politics. Try to stay away from it. Sometime you don't have choice and you have to take one side. Try to do a balancing act and don't get involved.
