All Advice
Initial Job Offer
Get as much as you can with the initial job offer. Upper management are reluctant to reward success in the future. VP of Manufacturing operates more politically than actual based on Performance indicators. If possible get contracts negotiated in writing.
Underpaid and Unappreciated Technicians
I have been a Certified Pharmacy Tech for a number of years and have finally realized that a pharmacy tech is not truly recognized for all that we do. We are not really appreciated by pharmacists, directors, managers or the hospital administrators. We are basically considered machines, a money making tool for our employer. First of all, being a good technician requires lots of skills. I have had many jobs in my lifetime, jobs that I thought were very important. However, being a technican is far more important than any other job I've had. The pay and importance of this job is so under rated yet it is a very rewarding and extemely important job. In order to be a great technichan you must first be a willing servant to those that are need. You must take pride in what you do. You must be very honest, loyal, detail oriented, quick learner, display great customer service skills, able to calculate and mix all drugs properly using the proper aseptic technique. This also includes chemotheraphy, heart drugs, baby syringes, etc. We must make sure all drugs are prepared and dispersed properly whether it be in solid or liquid form. We must order and put away supplies, answer questions, listen to complaints, multitask, and a host of other duties. It takes a lot of time, patience, attention to detail, and most of being a team player to be a great certified tech. We must able to adapt to change at a moments notice. An example of such would be training new techs and assisting a pharmacist with the training of new pharmacist. Thus, the job of technician is very underrated and underpaid. Although we may love our job as a technicians, we are unable to advance. Yes, one might say that being certified is an advancement but is it really. It is not reflected in our pay. A CPht should start out with nothing less than 19.50 - 25.00 an hour. We should be rated with the nurses because where would the pharmacist, doctors, nurses, etc., be without a good tech. Remember, behind every good man is is a good woman. Being a tech is great. It's wonderful to know that I am doing something that I truly love on a daily basis. I am making a difference. Although I am behind the scenes and receive little to no praise for what I do, I am very instrumental in making life better for those in need and that is my purpose. I am truly here to serve.
Build good relationships.
Build good relationships with commercial customers, as they are the largest recurring customer base that ensures that you will have a job and more than likely receive a raise. Besides it never hurts having a customer call in and request you or at least sincerely compliment you for doing your job well. The best way to do this is to connect with the customer in some way (try and remember something they might have told you last time you where there and ask them how that is doing etc.).you will find that customers begin to relate to you much better and don't mind calling for service and will begin to get you more business by word of mouth. (phone book's are good but nothing beats another persons experience) these types of customers generally stick with the same service company.not only will this type of practice ensure job security but will more than likely lead to salary increases.however if you are the type of technician that doesn't have a clue at what you are doing STOP reading this now and return to Burger King!
Maximize your pay by maximizing your contributions
In my prior position for this company, I thought I had skills that were not being fully utilized. I talked to a number of superiors and told them how I thought I could contribute more and how the company needed me to do that. They agreed! I wrote my new job description, received a promotion and a big pay raise. Now I do the job I absolutely love and receive the pay and prestige I deserve. Sell yourself. Do not be afraid to ask.
Being a great cashier
I have been a cashier for various fast food restaurants and department stores. Salary usually starts at minimum, but is usually dependent on experience. I was a manager for a restaurant and we based salary on experience. Those who learned quickly and did their job well were given raises quickly.
I want a large pay increase but have only with the company a year
I was hired at a lower rate than people who work under me. I have excelled in my first year with the company and I would like an increase of about $4000 per year. I really love the company and I am afraid asking for such a large increase is not appropriate. But I do feel I deserve it.
I currently assist one CEO, 2 VPs, 2 Directors, 3 Managers and 300 employees
I believe that I should be compensated for the workload that I carry out each day.
More Pay
I think that I should be making more than what I am. I have been with the company 10 years. I work in my area and every where else they need me. If you miss more than 7 days a year you could get fired. I think that it not fair. You can not help if you get sick or your child gets sick. There are alot of single parents today. And, you are the only one that your child has. We don't get any sick pay at all. And, I don't think that is right. Alot of the big supervisors don't have kids so they don't know what it is like. The high cost of everything is today, I think we should get paid more.
Small town governments equal more responsibilities but less pay than my colleagues.
Working for a small town government can equate to a larger array of duties due to fewer workers employed by the town due to reduced labor budgets. More responsibilities with some employers generally means larger salaries, but in small town governments these extra responsibilities equate to lower salaries for the current employees as well. Add in the politics for a small town government and this translates into a more stressful work environment. The positive aspect of working for a small town government is that policies bend like a wet noodle unless you really irritate the wrong person. This means your survival rate is enhanced by the lack of strict discipline. Type A personalities will not survive.
