Job Description for Primary School Teacher

Primary school teachers work full-time in a classroom environment teaching students in grade school or at an elementary level. Generally, primary school teachers instruct children ranging in age from 5 to 12 based on the location and school district where one is employed. Primary school teachers are required to teach a wide variety of subjects including English, math, science, reading and social studies to classes of children throughout the year. Covering subjects from world wars to the basics of division largely depends on the grade that the primary school teacher plans to teach. Developing full lesson plans that include basic assignments, quizzes and exams are some of the main responsibilities when working as a primary school teacher. It is also necessary for primary school teachers to ensure that each individual student is progressing properly and comprehending the material being presented.
Working as a primary school teacher also requires a commitment to teaching using different methods while having the ability to communicate with children at their own pace and developmental level. Understanding how to properly convey new lessons in multiple subjects to a specific age range of children is necessary when working as a primary school teacher. School teachers at the primary level are also required to attend staff meetings to help improve overall operations and to stay updated with any new educational requirements for the classroom. Primary school teachers are trained to help engage students while using creativity to make lesson plans and learning a memorable and positive experience.
