Quantity Surveyor Reviews

Q: What is it like working as a Quantity Surveyor?

Quantity Surveyor in Pretoria:
Pros: Managing contractual issues and compiling interim valuations. Taking pride in my work systems and work ethic.
Cons: Disagreeing on interim certificates.

Quantity Surveyor in Cape Town:
"Not a position that I see myself in over the long run."
Pros: I do not only do quantity surveying. I also assist with tenders, do procurement and maintain electronics in the office. My communication skills received a good amount of training, since my job entails quite a lot of talking with suppliers, subcontractors, etc.
Cons: Since I studied civil engineering, I would like to get involved in something more relevant. I feel that this job was good to start with, but that I need something more challenging and relevant to the field that I am interested in. I do not see myself in this current position over the long run. If I were to stay at this company (construction industry), I would like to grow into the position of contract manager. If this company can not provide me with this opportunity, I will seek other opportunities in the civil engineering consulting industry.
