Self confidence is key and knowing that no employer is paying you what you are worth, that is how they make a profit. If you do not ask they will only give you a cost of living adjustment, no matter how hard you work. For example, if you put in 15% unpaid overtime weekly they may give you 1% difference in the pay raise after you have already put in a year of OT. Dress appropriate for the position you are seeking. I mean from you head to your toe. Go sit in the parking lot at the job site you will be hired, notice how the employees are dress. Once you get inside, never dress better than the department supervisor to the department that you are seeking. The objective is to fit in to show you are part of the "team".
