Thousands of profiles from employees around the world are added to our
database each day. Through extensive online surveys we're able to collect
details on employee compensation, job skills, employer size, experience
level, education, and more. And, since new profiles arrive daily, our
database reflects changes in the job market as they happen.
Data Validation
To ensure the validity of our data, each profile we receive is
vigorously reviewed and scrubbed for accuracy by the PayScale system. Any
profile that's considered questionable, incomplete, or duplicate is
filtered out of the database and is not used in calculating compensation
reports.
Data Analysis and Reporting
Other services often use only job titles when comparing compensation
levels, which creates broad, arbitrary data. But not us. We delve deeper,
looking at additional factors to provide the most accurate, personalized

the U.S. Census and the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics on an as-needed basis.
Data Validation - Profiles are rigorously reviewed using
advanced, patent-pending algorithms to check for outliers or illogical
data sequences before being utilized in our reports. After years of
research & development, it can be shown that PayScale reports are not
only within industry-accepted ranges, but are more accurate because the
reported data is more precisely matched to your type and size of
employer.
Data Analysis - Our database maintains each individual profile
in its entirety, preserving the detailed points that make each employee
unique. PayScale does not modify or blend profile data, use inflation or
cost of living adjustments, or age data. This way we avoid erroneous
assumptions often made by other data providers, commonly known as
"averages of averages" and "surveys of surveys."
Data Reporting - PayScale establishes up to 100 comparable
employee data points for each report. The matches are precise and exceed
traditional sample sizes for comparisons of this nature. Additionally,
outliers below the 25th or above the 75th percentiles are not reported.
PayScale will not calculate or report data if the number of data points is
insufficient to provide a meaningful representation of the
