After a long day, most of us often want to just come up and curl up on the couch, watch a good movie or an episode of our favorite TV show, and indulge in junk food. But how does spending time on these actions actually help you in the long run?
Craig Jarrow of Time Management Ninja suggests we should use our time more wisely. Instead of using the limited amount of hours you have in a day by aimlessly surfing the Internet or engaging in gossip, Jarrow says we should invest our time in actions that will help improve ourselves and will contribute to our future happiness and success.
Engage in activities like planning and preparing. Plan your upcoming day and week to schedule out your upcoming meetings, activities and tasks. Then, prepare for your upcoming day and week. Prepare for that meeting you have coming up, or review the information you need to complete a task.
Have some extra time on your hands during the weekend? Practice. Practice makes perfect — whether you are practicing a presentation for your job or a sport you love. If you’re tired of practicing, then learn a new skill. Could you expand your culinary skills? Do you know how to install a light fixture? Spend time learning something new.
How much time do you spend on yourself? Your health is important, so give yourself time to exercise and prepare healthy meals. Part of being healthy also includes engaging in healthy relationships. Do you spend enough time with your family and friends? The more time you invest in them, the better your relationships will be.
Lastly, invest your time in your career. Don’t just wait for that promotion or new job, go and get it. You have to make things happen for yourself if you want to be successful in your career.
