It’s officially September, which means that most Americans have either taken their summer vacations — or make an uncomfortable peace with the fact that they’re probably not taking one.

If you’re in the latter camp, you’re not alone: Virtual meeting software provider PGI recently performed a survey, which found that 15 percent of us lose vacation days, because we can’t use them.
Among the other findings:
– 42 percent of workers cancel or postpone vacation, due to work.
– 23 percent of us stayed behind to work, while our families went on vacation.
– 82 percent of workers connect to the office.
Who’s to blame for all of this? Well, if you’re too nervous to point the finger at your boss and too emotionally drained to blame yourself, you can always look to the inventor of the smartphone. According to PGi, 40 percent of workers use that device to connect to the office, far outstripping tablets (4 percent) and laptops (11 percent).
